Dialectical Behavior Therapy

Today I’m starting the Dialectical Behavior Therapy Skills Workbook. It’s a book with practical exercises for improving coping mechanisms and interpersonal social skills. I’m really excited because I’ve always felt that I’m pretty good at everything discussed in the book, but there is always room to learn.

Several of my internet friends suggested it as a way to help broaden my perspective. One of them told me it didn’t do much for her other than help her see some things from other people’s perspective. She and I both agree that this is a valuable tool, because so often, we have to spend so much time thinking about our own (re)actions that we forget to consider how/why others are (re)acting the way that they are.

I don’t think my world will be turned upside down, but I do hope that I learn from it, even if I just learn how to put words to things that I already do.
