Tears Part 2 – Onions

In preparation for January, Jenny and I are getting ready to live a no-processed-food month. This means no ketchup, or crackers, or store bought bread. No ramen, no chips, and no Oreo cookies. It will be an interesting month. During our New Year’s Eve game night, all chips, cookies, and other perishable processed foods are on the menu. It’s a good thing we will have help eating it all, otherwise I’d feel like I was forcing myself to eat all the yummy things. (Oh, darn!)

I’ve spent a lot of time drooling over cook books, and planning meals. It’s going to be a tasty month for me. It will be a growth opportunity for all of us. But it’s going to be a total pain in the ass.

Today, my tears come from onions. I cut up 13 cups of onions, to freeze for later in the month. The whole house filled up with onion fumes, and I had to take a few breaks. Now there is an entire shelf in our deep-freezer full of onions.

I’ve also been prepping other stuff, like homemade breads, potatoes, raw meat, fruits, and veggies. It’s a colorful house I’m living in, and I’m excited for it. I will get to cook things I’ve not cooked in a long time. I will also get to introduce a lot of food to the kids, which is exciting too.

Hopefully, I’ll lose some weight as well. More on that tomorrow.

Hmmmm, I wonder if we could do this. We keep the processed food down to a minimum, but cold turkey would be interesting. I look forward to hearing how it goes and what you cook.

I need to find other resolutions other than losing weight. It puts a lot of negative pressure on myself that is not great. I do plan to get back to the gym, hubby and I started that already. Eating healthier works as an off-shoot of that. I have been reducing my portions in half, often taking home part of my meal from eating out. So I think the losing weight thing won’t be my main objective on January 1.

One year made a resolution not to make any other resolutions. Well, that one DID stick. lol. I guess I have a few hours to think about it some more.

Cheers and Happy New Year! We are going out to eat with Brad and Jill at a fancy place. After that, if they plan to go home after, we’ll come home since it is too cold to go down to the Plaza for the ball drop. Probably start my Game of Thrones 3D puzzle or play some MtG. 🙂

I tried to reply to this earlier on my phone, but it went kaput… (Everything’s crashing on my phone these days.)

I’m really looking forward to seeing how much healthier we all feel. We’ll be sure to report back. I figure if we can make a change that doesn’t have anything to do with eating less specifically, the healthy change will help us lose weight. Though we’ve gotten to the point where he has less to lose than I do. He’s getting tiny!

We’re having friends over for dinner and games. Blissfully, we don’t have to go anywhere today. =) Hugs.
