Hold My Hand?

The friend I wrote about recently passed away last week. It made me very sad that I wasn’t able to be there for him when he needed me. Actually, I’m not sure he needed me in particular. I’ve come to realize that he got what he really needed. He needed friends, and several of the amazing people we know helped ease his journey.

It’s a lonely feeling, knowing you need help. I never expect anyone to hold my hand when I’m hurting. It is surprising and humbling when someone is there for me. I don’t ever think about who isn’t there. I’m grateful for those who areIt takes only a tiny gesture to make someone feel loved.

It’s an act of bravery, selflessness, and love. I will always remember the people who have helped me when I’m down. They will forever be part of my life. It is easy to hate, dismiss, or pity those who are different. Each of those acts are bullying. If someone around you is bullying someone, or worse, dismissing them, step up. Make a small stand for that person. Tell them and others that you support them, even if it’s just as a friend.

In a similar vein, I loved this PSA from Ireland. It made me cry. Not because I was bullied, but because I never had the chance to stand up for those who were bullied in my high school. I hope I have the chance to make this kind of difference in someone’s life.

My hand is reaching out for yours. 🙂

I really liked this video too. It says so much.

I’m truly sorry for the loss of your friend.

    Anne 🙂
